Reinterpreting the iconic 555 language through bold shapes, vivid gradients and a modern print wrap

For Bjorn Huygelier’s Subaru GC8, IMAGO created a contemporary livery inspired by the visual language of the legendary 555-era Subarus. Rather than recreating an existing car, the design takes the recognisable shapes, colours and energy of that period and rebuilds them into a completely new composition.

The deep blue base preserves the immediate Subaru connection, while oversized circular graphics and flowing forms introduce a more modern rhythm across the car. A vivid gradient moving through pink, purple and orange adds depth to the print, contrasted by bright neon yellow details that give the design its strongest visual signature.

Simple in structure, rich in colour

Although the graphics are visually bold, the overall composition remains controlled. Large shapes create a clear structure, while the printed gradient adds variation and depth without making the car feel overcrowded. Combined with the neon yellow wheels and accents, the result gives the GC8 a fresh and energetic presence while respecting its rally heritage.

A modern interpretation of a familiar language

The design references the round shapes and bold colour contrasts associated with the 555 identity without becoming a direct copy. These elements were enlarged and simplified into a clean graphic system that flows consistently across the bodywork. The result feels familiar at first glance, while still forming a completely new and contemporary identity for the car.
