Livery Design: Gwen Backx -
Can-Am Maverick R X3
Building a modern desert livery around blue tones that contrast with the landscape of the Marocco Desert Challenge
For Gwen Backx and Nick Weyens, IMAGO created a full-print livery for their Can-Am Maverick R ahead of the Marocco Desert Challenge. The design was developed within the existing colour world of ASAP Racing, while giving the vehicle a distinct identity suited to its desert environment.
Different shades of blue form the foundation of the wrap, creating a strong contrast with the yellow and orange tones of the dunes. White and black were added to reflect the sharp transition between sunlight and shadow across the desert landscape, resulting in a modern composition that connects the vehicle with the setting in which it competes.
Making full use of print
The matte full-print wrap allowed gradients, tonal variations and smaller graphic details to become part of the complete design. White introduces light and separation, while black adds depth and references the strong shadows behind the dunes. Together, these elements give the Maverick a clean and technical finish without losing the raw character of the challenge.
Designed in contrast with the desert
Rather than repeating the natural colours of the surroundings, the livery was intentionally built around their complement. The layered blue tones remain connected to ASAP Racing, while becoming particularly strong against sand, rock and warm desert light.
